Red Joan

Joan Stanley (played by Dame Judi Dench) lives in a quiet village in England. Happily retired, her peaceful life is disturbed when M15 suddenly arrests her. Unbeknownst to her family and friends, Joan has a shocking past. She is one of the most important spies alive. It was in the 1930s when young Joan (Sophie Cookson), then a shy physics student, fell head deeply in love with the irresistible Russian, Leo. Joan begins to realise that the world stands on the brink of destruction and must be saved in the fight for military supremacy.

Post-war, Joan is employed at a top-secret nuclear research facility. She is faced with difficult questions. Will she choose peace no matter the cost? Will she betray everyone dearest to her including her country to save them? Red Joan is a riveting and emotional story that reveals a woman’s sacrifice in the face of impossible odds.
